WEEK 4 - CCL 103

CLIMBING COMPETENCIES LEVEL 3

This course covers safe and proper pole climbing techniques on powerline transmission poles (including rigging, ascending, and descending) and use of associated safety equipment and PPE, including the OSHA required fall-arrest equipment. Students will also perform hurt man rescue in the allotted 4-minute time limit.

COURSE OUTLINE

Students will safely perform the hurt man rescue within the allotted time frame of 4 minutes. They will demonstrate basic knot tying and rigging in order to do so. Students will safely ascend, descend, and maneuver around a 70' utility pole. Student will complete this course prior to being allowed to move to the next course of the program. Extra tutoring is mandatory if the student is not able to show these skills, in order for the instructors to safely pass them on to the next course.

COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Perform pole top hurt man rescue within the required four minutes.

  2. Demonstrate basic handline and rigging techniques.

  3. Identify and demonstrate different techniques for proper transmission pole inspection.

  4. Demonstrate the ability to ascend and descend a 70' transmission pole safely.

  5. Identify climbing hazards.
