WEEK 3 - CCL 102

CLIMBING COMPETENCIES LEVEL 2

This course covers safe and proper pole climbing techniques on powerline distribution poles (including rigging, ascending, and descending) and use of associated safety equipment and PPE, including the OSHA required fall-arrest equipment.

COURSE OUTLINE

Students will demonstrate daily how to properly inspect and wear climbing gear. They will properly attach their safety gear prior to ascending poles. Instructors will ensure students are able to climb safely at the height of 40', making sure they ascend and descend safely as well as maneuver around the pole prior to moving to the next course. Extra tutoring is mandatory if the student is not able to show these skills, for the instructors to safely pass them to the next course.

COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Demonstrate proper care for and inspection of climbing gear.

  2. Identify and demonstrate different techniques for proper distribution pole inspection.

  3. Introduction to pole top hurt man rescue.
