WEEK 2 - CCL 101

CLIMBING COMPETENCIES LEVEL 1

This course covers safe and proper pole climbing techniques on powerline distribution poles (ascending and descending) and use of associated safety equipment and PPE, including the OSHA required fall-arrest equipment.

COURSE OUTLINE

Students will learn how to properly inspect and wear climbing gear. They will also learn how to properly attach their safety gear prior to ascending poles. Instructors will ensure students are able ot climb safely at the height of 45', making sure they ascend and descend safely as well as maneuver around the pole prior to moving to the next course. Extra tutoring is mandatory fi the student cannot show these skills, in order for the instructors to safely pass them to the next course.

COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Learn to properly care for and inspect climbing gear.

  2. Identify and demonstrate different techniques for proper pole inspection.

  3. Identify climbing hazards. Demonstrate the ability attach climbing gear

  4. correctly to the poles prior to ascending.

  5. Demonstrate the ability to ascend and descend a 45' pole safely.
