WEEKS 9 & 10 - ELI 103
ELECTRICAL TRANSMISSION CONSTRUCTION
This course covers the construction of a Transmission H frame pole setup. It helps the student to differentiate the guy wire and conductor size difference between distribution and transmission construction.
It covers the use of ladders and how to safe rig and work off the pole while using it to remove conductor dollies and install armor rods and conductor shoes. Students will also perform X brace installation and removal on the H frame structure.
10 Lecture Hours
80 Field Hours
COURSE OUTLINE
Week 9 of Program: Students will learn the basics of identifying guy wire, wire grips, guy wire preform sizes and conductor sizes. They will learn the difference between the material needed to frame an H frame transmission pole, and transition to climbing a larger pole up to 70 feet.
Week 10 of the Program: Students will work as a crew to put their learned skills to use. They will fill out daily JHA's, perform pre and post trip inspections on vehicles. Inspect rigging material, gather construction materials to build a mock transmission electrical system using ladder work and pole climbing.
COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Identify transmission construction material based on system voltage and drawings.
Identify Transmission guy wire, grip sizes and conductor sizes.
Perform Ladder work safely on Transmission H frame.
Perform X Brace change out on Transmission H frame.
Construct a mock transmission H frame using drawings, rigging material, vehicle equipment, and construction materials.
