WEEKS 7 & 8 - ELI 102

ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION CONSTRUCTION

This course covers basic electrical safety and equal potential zones to provide safe work areas on equipment, along with ground and aerial work.

30 Lecture Hours ‍

60 Field Hours

COURSE OUTLINE

Week 7 of Program: Students will learn the basics on transformer installations for the electrical distribution system they will be able to verify and identify the necessary transformer and connections for the system voltage. They will begin to identify the necessary material needed to construct a distribution electrical system.

Week 8 of the Program: Students will work as a crew to put their learned skills to use. They will fill out daily JHA's, perform pre and post trip inspections on vehicles. Inspect rigging material, gather construction materials to build a mock electrical distribution system.

COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Identify system voltage, name plate voltage ratings and customer voltage needed to properly install transformers or a transformer bank.

  2. Identify the proper transformer for the system line voltage.

  3. Demonstrate ability to properly prepare a single-phase transformer bank for installation and explain its connections.

  4. Demonstrate ability to properly prepare a B-phase transformer bank for installation and explain its connections.

  5. Demonstrate ability to properly prepare a three-phase transformer bank for installation and explain its connections.

  6. Identify distribution construction material based on system voltage and drawings.

  7. Construct a mock distribution line using drawings, rigging material, vehicle equipment, and construction materials.
